BC for Beginners at Mt. Norikura (3026m)

Welcome to our skiing adventure! This time, we’ll explore Mount Norikura in the northern part of Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture.

Situated in the Northern Alps, the summit reaches 3026m, but the excitement begins even at 2800m.

The ski resort operates until March 31st, allowing access up to 2000m. Here are some seasonal recommendations:

• Powder Snow Season: January to February (Lift ticket: ¥1500, starting from 2000m)
• Stable Snow : March (Lift ticket: ¥1500, starting from 2000m)
• Off-Season Skiing: April to June (Starting from 1800m)

April is highly recommended due to stable snow conditions and reduced risks.

• Base: 2000m

• Skiing Time: 20 minutes
• Distance: 8km

Details for BC from April to June:

• Base: 1800m
• Summit: 3026m
• Hiking Time: 5-6 hours
• Skiing Time: 40 minutes
• Distance: 10km
• BC Level: ⭐︎⭐︎

As there are no lifts available, walking distances are longer. The recommended backcountry skiing period is from late March to April.
